Guide to Law Journals

We’ve assembled a list of relevant legal journals, with a focus on the flagship publications of major law schools.  This is not a comprehensive list, but it includes a great many of the principal legal journals in the United States and some overseas.  We’ve made a point to cover a diverse set of practice areas, from intellectual property to maritime law, and should be a great starting point for any research in law or related fields.

  • ABC Child Law Practice – ABC Child Law Practice is a publication of the ABA’s Center on Children and the Law
  • Administrative Law Review – The Administrative Law Review is a quarterly publication of the Washington College of Law and the ABA Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice.
  • Aedon – Aedon is an Italian journal of arts law published three times annually in English and Italian.
  • Akron Law Review – The Akron Law Review is a quarterly journal put out by the University of Akron School of Law.
  • Alabama Law Review – The Alabama Law Review is published five times yearly by the University of Alabama Law School.
  • Albany Law Review – The Albany Law Review is published by the University of Albany Law School.
  • Alternative Law Journal – The Alternative Law Journal is an Australian journal focused on social justice and the legal system.
  • American Criminal Law Review – The ACLR is published quarterly by Georgetown University, and is the most-cited criminal law journal in the United States.
  • American Indian Law Review – The American Indian Law Review is the premier American legal journal dealing with indigenous issues.
  • American Journal of Criminal Law – The American Journal of Criminal Law is published by the University of Texas Law School and deals with a wide range of criminal issues.
  • American Journal of Law & Medicine – The American Journal of Law & Medicine is America’s premier health law publication and is published by the American Society of Law, Medicine, & Ethics.
  • American Law & Economics Review – The American Law & Economics Review is published by the American Law and Economics Association and covers the intersections of legal and economic studies.
  • American Review of International Arbitration – The American Review of International Arbitration is published within the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law at Columbia University.
  • American University Law Review – The American University Law Review is the flagship publication of the American University Washington College of Law.
  • Animal Law Review – The Animal Law Review is published at the Lewis & Clark Law School and is the oldest and primary journal in the field.
  • Annual Survey of American Law – The Annual Survey of American Law is a practice-oriented journal published by the New York University School of Law.
  • Arizona State Law Journal – The Arizona State Law Journal is published under the auspices of the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
  • Asian-Pacific Law & Policy Journal – The Asian-Pacific Law & Policy Journal is the primary American legal journal dealing with Asian and Trans-Pacific issues.
  • Baylor Law Review – The Baylor Law Review is the flagship publication of the Baylor Law School.
  • Berkeley Journal of Employment & Labor Law – The Berkeley Journal of Employment and Labor Law is one of America’s premier publications dealing with employment and labor law.
  • Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review – The Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review is one of the nation’s two oldest environmental law journals and covers broad, interdisciplinary topics in environment and law.
  • Boston University International Law Journal – The BUILJ is published biannually and is one of the nation’s premier international law journals.
  • Brooklyn Law Review – The Brooklyn Law Review is the major journal of the Brooklyn Law School.
  • Buffalo Law Review – The Buffalo Law Review is the flagship publication of the University at Buffalo Law School.
  • Canada-United States Law Journal – The Canada-United States Law Journal is the only law journal covering the relationship between the two titular nations.
  • Cardozo Law Review – The Cardozo Law Review is the primary organ of the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law.
  • Chapman Law Review – The Chapman Law Review is the official law review of the Chapman University School of Law.
  • Chicago Journal of International Law – The Chicago Journal of International Law is published twice a year at the University of Chicago School of Law.
  • Chicago-Kent Law Review – The Chicago-Kent Law Review is published at the Chicago-Kent Law School at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
  • Columbia Business Law Review – The Columbia Business Law Review focuses on the conjunction of the legal and business worlds.
  • Columbia Human Rights Law Review – The Columbia Human Rights Law Review is one of the world’s oldest and most respected human rights journals.
  • Columbia Journal of Environmental Law – The Columbia Journal of Environmental Law is one of the nation’s preeminent environmental journals.
  • Columbia Journal of Gender and Law – The Columbia Journal of Gender and Law examines the law through a feminist lens and examines the interaction between gender and law.
  • Columbia Law Review – The Columbia Law Review is the flagship publication of the Columbia Law School and one of America’s premier legal journals.
  • CommLaw Conspectus – CommLawConspectus is a journal of communications law based at the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law.
  • Construction Law Review – The Construction Law Review is an update on current topics in construction law.
  • Cornell Law Review – The Cornell Law Review is published every other month at the Cornell University Law School.
  • Denver Journal of International Law and Policy – The DJILP is published at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
  • Drake Law Review – The Drake Law Review is a quarterly publication of the Drake University Law School.
  • Duke Law Journal – The Duke Law Journal is the major publication of the Duke University Law School.
  • East European Constitutional Review – The EECR is a publication of the NYU School of Law dealing with legal issues in Eastern Europe in the post-Soviet era.
  • Emory Law Journal – The Emory Law Journal is the primary legal publication at the Emory University School of Law.
  • Employee Rights and Employment Policy Journal – The EREPJ is a multidisciplinary journal published at the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law dealing with the relationship between law, economics, labor relations, and sociology in the workplace.
  • Entertainment and Sports Lawyer – Entertainment and Sports Lawyer is the official journal of the ABA Forum Committee on Entertainment and Sports Industries.
  • Family Court Review – The Family Court Review is published in conjunction with the Center for Children, Families, and the Law at the Hofstra University School of Law.
  • Federal Communications Law Journal – The FCLJ is sponsored by the Federal Communications Bar Association and the Indiana University School of Law.
  • Federal Courts Law Review – The Federal Courts Law Review is published under the auspices of the Federal Magistrate Judges Association.
  • The First Amendment Law Review – The First Amendment Law Review deals with all First Amendment issues and is published by the University of North Carolina School of Law.
  • Florida State University Law Review – The FSULR is the main student-run publication of the Florida State University School of Law.
  • Fordham Urban Law Journal – The Fordham Urban Law Journal is published by Fordham University and deals with legal and policy issues surrounding urban America.
  • Gaming Law Review and Economics – GLRE is the country’s most authoritative journal dealing with both casino and internet gaming law.
  • George Washington Law Review – The George Washington Law Review is the primary publication of the George Washington University School of Law.
  • Georgia Law Review – The Georgia Law Review is the flagship legal publication of the University of Georgia.
  • Gonzaga Law Review – The Gonzaga Law Review is the official publication of the Gonzaga University School of Law.
  • Harvard Law Review – The Harvard Law Review is Harvard’s flagship legal publication and one of America’s most respected legal journals.
  • Hofstra Law Review – The Hofstra Law Review is the flagship publication of the Hofstra University School of Law.
  • Houston Business and Tax Law Journal – The Houston Business and Tax Law Journal is dedicated to all realms of business and tax law and is published by the University of Houston Law School.
  • Human Rights Law Review – The Human Rights Law Review covers all facets of human rights law and policy.
  • Indiana Law Journal – The Indiana Law Journal is the main publication of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington.
  • Indiana Law Review – The Indiana Law Review is the publication of the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis.
  • Industrial Law Journal – The Industrial Law Journal is perhaps the most respected journal dealing with industrial law internationally.
  • Intellectual Property & Technology Law Review – IPTLRev covers intellectual property law in both the American domestic and international spheres.
  • International Business Law Journal – The International Business Law Journal is a bilingual French-English publication covering the legal end of international business.
  • International Environmental Agreements – International Environmental Agreements covers the policy and law behind international environmental cooperation.
  • International Journal of Human Rights – The International Journal of Human Rights is published quarterly and deals with a broad range of human rights issues.

  • Journal of Contemporary Health Law & Policy – The JCHLP is published semi-annually by the Columbus School of Law.
  • Journal of Corporation Law – The Journal of Corporation Law is one of the nation’s leading journals dealing with corporate law and is housed at the University of Iowa.

  • Law & Sexuality – Law and Sexuality is the nation’s foremost publication covering legal issues in the LGBT community.
  • Law Practice Management – Law Practice Management is the official organ of the Law Practice Management Section of the ABA.
  • Louisiana Law Review – The Louisiana Law Review is the flagship journal of the LSU Law School.
  • Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review – The MIPLR fosters discourse on intellectual property law and is based at the Marquette University Law School.
  • Media & Arts Law Review – Media & Arts Law Review is published quarterly and deals with media law issues ranging from free speech to digital copyright.
  • Medical Law Review – The Medical Law Review covers medical-legal issues around the world.
  • Mercer Law Review – The Mercer Law Review is the oldest law review in Georgia and the main publication of the Mercer University School of Law.
  • Michigan Law Review – The Michigan Law Review is the flagship publication of the University of Michigan Law School.
  • Michigan Telecommunications and Technology Law Review – The MTTLR is a pioneering journal of technology law sponsored by the University of Michigan.

  • North Carolina Journal of Law & Technology – JOLT covers all areas of technology law, including intellectual property, life sciences, and the use of technology in the courtroom.
  • Northwestern University Law Review – The Northwestern University Law Journal is the primary journal of the Northwestern University School of Law.
  • Ohio State Law Journal – The Ohio State Law Journal is published six times yearly at the OSU Moritz College of Law.
  • Oregon Law Review – The Oregon Law Review is the oldest law review in the Northwest and the main organ of the University of Oregon School of Law.

  • Sports Lawyers Journal – The Sports Lawyers Journal is America’s leading sports law publication, co-sponsored by the Tulane Law School and the Sports Lawyers Association.
  • Stanford Journal of Civil Rights & Civil Liberties – The SJCRCL is published by Stanford Law School and covers all civil rights issues both domestically and internationally.
  • Stanford Law Review – The Stanford Law Review is Stanford’s general-interest law review and one of America’s top legal publications.

  • Third World Law Journal – The Third World Law Journal is housed at Boston College and is America’s sole legal journal focusing on issues in the developing world.

  • Tribal Law Journal – The Tribal Law Journal is housed at the University of New Mexico and covers legal issues involving indigenous nations worldwide.

  • Tulane Maritime Law Journal – The Tulane Maritime Law Journal is sponsored by the Tulane Law School and is preeminent in the fields of maritime and admiralty law.
  • UC Davis School of Law Journal of Juvenile Law & Policy – The JLLP is published biannually to address the concerns of children in the law.
  • UCLA Journal of Islamic and Near Eastern Law – The UCLA Journal of Islamic and Near Eastern Law is one of the few legal journals outside the Islamic World to cover Islamic law and the laws of the region historically referred to as the Near East.

  • University of Pittsburgh Law Review – The UPLR is published quarterly and covers all areas of legal scholarship.

  • Vanderbilt Law Review – The Vanderbilt Law Review is published six times per year at the Vanderbilt University Law School.
  • Villanova Law Review – The Villanova Law Review is the general law journal of the Villanova Law School.
  • Virginia Law Review – The Virginia Law Review has been published at the University of Virginia School of Law for nearly 100 years.
  • Wake Forest Law Review – The Wake Forest Law Review is a student-run publication published five times annually.
  • Washburn Law Journal – The Washburn Law Journal is a publication of the Washburn University School of Law covering all legal areas.
  • Washington and Lee Law Review – The Washington and Lee Law Review publishes quarterly at the Washington and Lee University School of Law.

  • Widener Law Journal – The Widener Law Journal is published by the Widener University School of Law, with special attention to Pennsylvania-specific law.
  • Willamette Law Review – The Willamette Law Review is published quarterly by the Williamette University College of Law and includes one issue biennially dedicated to Oregon legal issues.
  • William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal – The WIlliam & Mary Bill of Rights Journal is published at William & Mary University and is one of the country’s major constitutional law publications.
  • William Mitchell Law Review – The William Mitchell Law Review is published by the William Mitchell College of Law and covers legal issues ranging from the regional to the international.
  • Yale Human Rights & Development Journal – The YHDRLJ is an interdisciplinary legal journal examining the linkages and intersections of human rights, law, and development economics.
